Billy always loved the boardwalk, and Bruce loved to make
Billy happy. Bruce made plans to bring Billy to the Wildwood
boardwalk. They would ride some of the amusements, and play some
of the arcade games.
The night before, Bruce was in a motorcycle
accident. He lost most of the skin on his right forearm, and on
his shoulder. It stung all the time. Bruce also suffered
from a couple of cracked ribs. It's not known
how many because
Bruce never went to the hospital. The last time he went to the
hospital, the doctor took an x-ray of his back, and told him he should
retire, and should be on social security. Bruce had sustained
many injuries by his 41st birthday.
At 10:00 am, just as he promised, Bruce picked Billy
up to go to the boardwalk. They walked around for a while, and
they played some games.
The arcade cabinets were pretty tall, and Billy
couldn't quite reach them. When Billy played on his Nintendo at
home, he didn't have to worry about this, as he would normally sit on a
chair or on the floor to play.
Bruce helped Billy up, all 80 pounds of him, cracked
ribs and all. When Bruce picked up Billy, he winced. When
Billy asked why, Bruce said it was just a minor training accident.
Billy played a few more games until he realized how
much pain his father was in. Bruce never complained. He
just told Billy that he loved him, that he was sorry that he broke
plans with him the week before, and he was very happy to be with his
son.
