Danube Cruise Part 5
The painted bricks lead to art stores.
St. StephenÕs Cathedral where we are to hear an organ recital.
Nice place.
EuropeÕs largest pipe organ, 17,000 pipes. Concert was wonderful.
The pulpit.
Napoleon, purposely facing away from the church.
After an ice cream in town, back to the ship for lunch and a nap.
We launched and went through another lock.
We saw many buildings with solar panels. They have to import all their oil
and donÕt wish to burn coal any longer. Smart people.
Getting ready for a music festival.
Arrived at Regensburg the next morning. Took a walking tour with our guide.
A little rainy but we were well prepared.
More decorated buildings. David taking on Goliath.
This is a very old building. High homes were representative of wealth
even if the upper stories were not used.
Came to a church square where a wedding was taking place.
The wedding limo!
The church doors.
There was much wealth here in the past.
The hatter.
They really did design and make the hat for the Mad Hatter.
The tour ended at the St. Peter Cathedral.
The alter with stained glass windows.
Time for a taste of German beer, sausage with sauerkraut at the Wurstkuchen.
A small place but very popular even in the rain.
Over night we headed up the Main-Danube Canal. The canal has 16 locks but we had to do only
10 of them to get to Nuremberg. Three were very large. This lock drops us 80 feet.
Another 80 foot drop coming up.
The exit opened after we went down.
We then went OVER a highway. Pretty neat.
The ship had a special person to do the flowers each day.
The dining room is prepared for lunch. One could also go to a buffet.
After docking in Nuremberg we took a bus tour. This is the inside of a coliseum-like
building built and used by Hitler for some of his speeches.
This is the stadium that appears in a lot of the Hitler documentaries.
Lots of NaziÕs with swastika flags marching around.
Saw a lot of neat old buildings.
