New Zealand-Australia
2017
Flying into Auckland. Rugged country.
The rugged fellow was awaiting us in the Auckland airport.
Very nice hotel room after our trip from the airport.
We went for a walk to the wharf and found this neat old buiidling.
It is the Ferry Terminal and is designated as a world heritage site.
Nice ship just outside the restaurant we picked for lunch
This boat was docked across the harbor at the Maritime Museum.
Cruise ship docked for the day. The structure called the Cloud sits
in front of the ship on the Queens Wharf.
Two colorful buildings along the wharf walkway.
A small park with a neat swimming hole for kids.
On the city tour the next morning. Apartments.
We took a ride along Quay Street.
We stopped at Savage Park to look back at the city of Auckland.
Pretty place.
Nice view of the city with the Sky Tower that is next to our hotel.
Not a bad little place.
The houses near the shore were stacked up the hill. All priced in excess of a million.
Some were more modest but still very expensive.
Condos.
Taller condos.
We drove up into the hills too, to see other nice, expensive places.
Every house had balconies.
We stopped at the War Museum gardens.
Unusual flowers.
I canÕt resist photographing flowers.
Orchids especially.
After a nice lunch of pasta and mussels we went to the Maritime Museum.
An aboriginal figure. We learned the tongue thing is a sign of ferocity.
We learned about Captain James CookÕs discover of New Zealand 6 October 1769.
The museum had a lot about the AmericaÕs Cup as well.
That evening we went on a sailing boat for dinner and harbor cruise.
City view.
Pretty sunset.
Hard to get an evening shot on a moving boat.
