New Zealand – Australia Part 4
Very nice hotel.
The view out our room window. Still early so very overcast.
Went into the Sir Hillary Museum at the lodge.
The sky is clearing.
Many hiking trails in the area.
Finally we see Mt Cook (Aoraki), 12,218 feet after a rock slide shortened her a bit in 1991.
Looking back as we travel south to Queenstown. Only one road to the mountain.
Gasoline price at a pit stop.
Translates to about $6 per gallon.
CanŐt resist pretty flowers.
Stopped in the town of Omarama for lunch.
A pretty garden nearby. CanŐt believe the flamingoes though.
Getting into the grape regions. Gibbston Valley.
All the homes have a nice view.
The view of Lake Wakatipu out our Queenstown hotel room window.
The next morning we are off to Milford Sound on the one and only road there.
We saw thousands of sheep.
A deer farm.
Lunch stop.
Gift shop had lots of goods.
Like Wawa but with seating.
Small houses.
Scenery getting better all the time.
A roadside stop for pictures.
A stoat trap. Stoats introduced to kill off rabbits but they eat kiwi and other birds too.
Beautiful area.
One lane tunnel before we reach Milford Sound.
A picture stop after exiting the tunnel.
Another picture stop in a very lush region.
The spot is called The Chasm. Water carved rock.
Finally at Milford Sound and the cruise.
The ocean between New Zealand and Australia.
Not unlike the fjords of Norway.
Seal rock.
All the boats go close to the waterfall.
On the bus back home but still in the valley.
