Broad Content Area Definitions
Examples

You must provide a clear definition for each of the PE and HE broad content areas presented in your curriculum. This means that you will have 5 PE and 3 HE definitions for K-5; 5 PE and 3 HE definitions for 6-8; and 5 PE and 3 HE definitions for 9-12 (be sure to note definition changes across grade levels).  Include a few content examples for clarification/identification. (This portion of your grade is worth 15 points.)


These are only a few example - not perfect, but they might be helpful..........

K-5

Manipulative Skills: A series of lead up activities that introduces fundamental skills that will be master through repetition, these skills will be later used in game play activities. For example, rolling, throwing, catching, striking with feet/hands, blocking/trapping. (add examples)

Fundamentals- An essential part of building the basic skills needed to participate in all physical activities. The skills include locomotor and non locomotor movements as well as manipulative skills served as the basics to sports related activities. (add examples)

Basic movements - Students learn basic locomotor and non-locomotor movements(Static and dynamic), that are the foundational skills students learn in basic movements, such as walking, running, skipping, hopping, toe touches, trunk twists, and jumping jacks, that help prepare the body for further physical development. These movement skills give students an opportunity to later participate in games and individual, dual, and team sports. (add examples)

Dance: Teaches students broadly based rhythmic skills to cultural, line and social dances. Students will learn how to move in space gaining body awareness. This will include partner, group and individual dances. (add examples)

Hygiene: Proper hygiene is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle that students need to create a safe and healthy community. (add examples)

Drug Education: With the many varieties of helpful and damaging drugs, it is important for students to understand the differences in the drugs and their side effects. (add examples)

Family Life: Focus on health family functions and the relationships within and around them. (add examples)

Individual and Dual Sports: Introductory to skills and requirements in order for students to learn first at hand sports relating to one’s individual’s skill level in working in partners. (add examples)

Individual & dual sports - Activity will encourage the students to expand their recognition of the spatial awareness, along with the ability to grow independently. This will give the students experience in tennis, golf, and beach volleyball.

Team Sports- Games and activities in which a group of people form a common team and work to defeat an opposing team by scoring points and preventing the opposing team from scoring points on them. (add examples)

Adventure Education- An experiential learning process in which people work together though challenging indoor and outdoor settings with the primary intent of improving communication, leadership, goal setting, and overall health. (add examples)

Environmental Health: This section will provide students with education on how to protect the environment personally and as a community. Topics such as water pollution, air pollution, recycling, and conserving resources will be covered throughout this unit. (add examples)

Nutrition: The purpose of the nutrition education unit is to assist the students in making all around healthier food choices for themselves. In this section they will learn about the food groups as well as the food plate. They will also be educated on how to read food labels properly to further help with decisions on which is the best possible choice of food to buy. (add examples)

Sexuality: The Sexuality unit will focus on developing an understanding of the male and female reproductive system, behaviors, as well as different types of contraceptives. They will also be provided with the tools to ultimately form healthy relationships and bonds. (add examples)

Individual Sports: Various activities in which students individually engage in competition against other students, or with complete autonomy. (add examples)

Individual & dual Sports - Enhanced activities where skill sets bring focus to self-evaluation, personal achievement, and goal-setting. (add examples)

Team Sports- Team sports teaches students to work together as a group to achieve a similar objective. Students will learn the importance of sportsmanship, how to utilize health and skill related components in a variety of sports, and how to apply complex offensive and defensive strategies. (add examples)

Sex Education: Students will focus on contraceptives, pro life and pro choice, and the anatomy of the sexual organs. (add examples)

Nutrition: Students will focus on safety that they will face such as beach safety, first aide, poisoning and bites from animals. (add examples)

Drug Education: Students will focus on legal and illegal substances along with the physical and mental effects of drugs on the body. (add examples)
