Diet Analysis

Using the details provided in class, maintain a complete record of your diet for seven consecutive days. Analyze
your diet using the questions below as a framework for your paper.

Do these three steps in order:

1. Maintain a 7-day record of all you eat.
2. Perform the computer analysis.
3. Write the response paper.

Turn in THE 7-DAY RECORD, COMPUTER ANALYSIS AND PAPER.

Complete Dietary Record includes the following:

          1. Record everything you eat or drink for 7 consecutive days. Use a separate page for each day. Put
          day and date on each sheet.
          2. Include details such as condiments, ingredients, snacks or "tastes" of something.
          3. Include all water and other beverages.
          4. Fill out all columns as described in class.
          5. Put your name and dates for which you kept the record on a cover sheet and turning in the record
          with the paper.

          Suggestion: Carry record with you and write down foods as soon as you eat them (your memory may
          fail you!).

Guidelines for accompanying paper:

Answer the following questions. USE THESE SUBHEADINGS:

     Comparison to Guidelines. How does your diet compare to the recommended guidelines?
     What's good about your diet?
     How can you improve it?
     Discuss the following:
         * servings from Food Groups
         * fiber
         * water
         * percentage of calories from fat, protein, carbohydrates
         * vitamins and minerals (esp. if less than 25%)

     Eating Patterns. Are there patterns in your eating in terms of your mood, times that you eat, whether you
     eat alone or with others?

     Weekend vs. Weekday Diet. Are weekends different than weekdays in terms of what, how much, how
     often or why you eat?

     Surprises. Were you surprised by anything in your record? Did you actually eat more or less than you
     thought you did?

     Reaction to Record. Was keeping the record easy or hard for you? Why? Did you eat differently because
     you had to write it down?

     Changes in Diet. Are there any changes you want to make in your diet? How likely are you to make these
     changes? What would be hard about changing? What would be easy?

 NOTE: The paper should be typed, double-spaced, approximately 5-6 pages in length and free of typos and
grammatical errors.
