Using the details provided in class,
maintain a complete record of your diet for seven consecutive days. Analyze
your diet using the questions below as a framework for your paper.
Do these three steps in order:
1. Maintain a 7-day record of all you eat.
2. Perform the computer analysis.
3. Write the response paper.
Turn in THE 7-DAY RECORD, COMPUTER ANALYSIS AND PAPER.
Complete Dietary Record includes the following:
1. Record everything
you eat or drink for 7 consecutive days. Use a separate page for each day.
Put
day and date
on each sheet.
2. Include details
such as condiments, ingredients, snacks or "tastes" of something.
3. Include all
water and other beverages.
4. Fill out
all columns as described in class.
5. Put your
name and dates for which you kept the record on a cover sheet and turning
in the record
with the paper.
Suggestion: Carry
record with you and write down foods as soon as you eat them (your memory
may
fail you!).
Guidelines for accompanying paper:
Answer the following questions. USE THESE SUBHEADINGS:
Comparison to Guidelines. How does your diet
compare to the recommended guidelines?
What's good about your diet?
How can you improve it?
Discuss the following:
* servings from Food
Groups
* fiber
* water
* percentage of calories
from fat, protein, carbohydrates
* vitamins and minerals
(esp. if less than 25%)
Eating Patterns. Are there patterns in your
eating in terms of your mood, times that you eat, whether you
eat alone or with others?
Weekend vs. Weekday Diet. Are weekends different
than weekdays in terms of what, how much, how
often or why you eat?
Surprises. Were you surprised by anything in
your record? Did you actually eat more or less than you
thought you did?
Reaction to Record. Was keeping the record
easy or hard for you? Why? Did you eat differently because
you had to write it down?
Changes in Diet. Are there any changes you
want to make in your diet? How likely are you to make these
changes? What would be hard about changing?
What would be easy?
NOTE: The paper should be typed, double-spaced, approximately
5-6 pages in length and free of typos and
grammatical errors.
