Re:      2 0 0 9 - 2 0 1 0   W I N T E R     L E A G U E

As we of the Vineland Basketball Association are now in the planning stages of our 2009-2010 WINTER LEAGUE, we need to begin recruiting coaches.  This will help us to determine the number of applicants we can accept at registration and will also insure adequate preparation for our upcoming program.

  F O R     Y O U R     I N F O R M A T I O N

*           The league will consist of  five age levels (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-14, 15-18).

*           The number of teams that we will field in each division will be based on the

            number  of  coaches  available.

*           Sign-ups are OCTOBER 31ST, NOVEMBER 7TH, and NOVEMBER 14TH.

*           Player tryouts will take place on NOVEMBER 22ND.

*           The league draft will be conducted on  NOVEMBER 23RD.

*           Practice sessions will be scheduled by the VBA.  Every team will be given a minimum of one designated practice time slot per week.

*           Our winter program will run from the FIRST SUNDAY IN JANUARY through MID-MARCH.

*           Games will be played on SUNDAY AFTERNOONS.

*           All coaches must be ASEP or RUTGERS CERTIFIED.

*           All applicants ages 8 to 18 (including the son / daughter of a coach) will be required to try out in order to be drafted.

ATTENTION ALL H.E.S. MAJORS!!!

If you are interested in joining the H.E.S. Club, this semester's NEXT MEETING  is on Friday, October 16th at 1:45pm in Esby (Gym 3/4).

The Health and Exercise Science Club is a great opportunity to expand your professional development opportunities, build relationships with fellow students and teachers, while having some fun along the way.

Some of our past activities have included:
Climbing Nights, NJAHPERD State Conference (www.njahperd.org), NJEA Conference, Coordinating a Field Day at a nearby Elementary School, Volunteer Opportunities for Relay for Life (where all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society), participating in Recess Runners (students assist in a recess program held at Milleville Elementary), Co-Sponsor a 5k run with the Rowan Recreation Center (where all proceeds went to the American Heart Association), and the FIRST ANNUAL H.E.S. Battle Royale Fundraiser for Cancer which was a battle between the Athletic Training, HPFM, and Teacher Certification Majors (all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society).

The CLUB plans on doing much more this year with new funding from student government. This year we will be awarding conference scholarships to members who have the desire to attend the NJAHPERD, EDA or AAHPERD Conventions/Workshops.  For those of you who have no idea what all those capital letters mean, I assure you from personal experience, that the conferences are a lot of fun and full of outstanding learning experiences.

Of particular importance is that the HES CLUB is looking for new students to step up and take very active roles within the Club.  There are several Executive Board members that can no longer maintain their positions because they are graduating in May, and therefore we are looking for underclassmen to step up and fill these very important positions.

So if you'd like to learn more about the opportunities available... we'll be looking forward to seeing you AT THE NEXT MEETING on Friday, October 16th at 1:45pm in Esby (Gym 3/4)!!

If you're interested in joining the club but ABSOLUTELY CANNOT attend the meeting, email me at Blosel14@students.rowan.edu so I can keep you posted with what's going on.

Good talk... See you on Wednesday!
