Think about your web
site
and its purpose, begin a plan, consider other sites with which to link,
and identify the type
of graphics you want to use.
These can be but a few
of your pre-construction planning steps.

This process is for use in the PC Lab in Education Hall.
1. Establish your Rowan index
page. Open Mozilla or Seamonkey, then
window/composer. A blank page
will appear - type your
name at the top of the page. This will be your home page and the
first one the server/computer will look for when someone tries to
access
your site (http://users.rowan.edu/~yourRowanemailname).
2. When you save any changes to your
index (home) page, make sure you save them to the "H" drive.
Specifically, place all files related to your website in the "public.www"
folder. You will repeat this step
each time you create a new page (when naming all pages, DO NOT use spaces
and end each title with .html).
3. Once you have your home page or any new page saved, you can enter content as if you were entering text in a word processing program. All functions operate the same (font, colors, bullets, etc.) from the tool bar.
4. If you want to insert clip art or stored graphics, go to the Image button on the tool bar or to Insert: Image on the menu bar, then select the file where the image is housed (your "H" drive or disk; choose graphic name). If you locate a picture or graphic on another web page and want to save it to your file, you should follow these steps: (PC) right click on the object - and then click on "save image as" - follow the steps in step 5 to save to your file. (Mac) hold your mouse on the object and hold the click - then select "save image as" - follow steps in step 5 to save to your file.
5. If you want e-mail sent to you directly from your page you highlight your name, e-mail address, or email icon on the page, click the Insert button or Insert and Link on the menu bar and enter (mailto:youremailaddress)
6. If you want to link to another page - follow the same steps in #7 and choose the file location you want to link. You can link to an already constructed page in your file (locate the page in your file) or to another website you deem appropriate by entering the URL address for the site.
7. If you would like to insert a Insert a Table, go to the Table button on the tool bar or to Insert: Table on the menu bar. Choose the number of rows and columns and width (change percent if table should not go across the entire page); check if columns are equal or not.
8. This is a start.
You can use a jump drive or
rewriteable CDto store all files and graphics for your web page (it's
safer
to have your own copy and you can edit them at home if you have an
editor)
and you should store them directly to your "H" drive as indicated
above. You can work on your files from home by using the Cisco VPN
client (details in class).
