Kinderpolka (Germany)

Background: A children's dance partner dance from Germany that mocks the adults scolding finger and uses a clap and slap pattern.

Grade: K-2

Formation: Single circle. Dancers are assigned a partner and the partners face each other. Partner can hold hands with arms extended out to the sides.

Movements:  Side Step Together, Heel Touch, Four-step turn in place.

Description:

Dancers begin facing each other.

Part 1. Partners together. Three step together steps moving sideways in toward the center of the circle. One count for each step (6 counts)  Then three stamps, right, left, right. (2 counts)

Part 2. Partners together. Three step together steps moving sideways in away from the center of the circle. One count for each step (6 counts)  Then three stamps, right, left, right. (2 counts)

Part 3. Each dancer claps their thighs once, claps their hands once and claps both hands against their partner three times. (4 counts) Cue is, thighs and hands and one, two, three. Repeat this sequence again.

Part 4. Each dancer performs a right heel touch in front and shakes their right index finger 3 times at their partner, to mimic a scolding motion, using 2 counts.  This is repeated with the left heel and left finger. 2 counts. Total  (4 counts)

Part 5. Each dancer does a four-step turn in place turning to the right and stamps right, left, right. (8 counts)
Dance is repeated again several times.
