Rick Dammers (B.MEd. Northwestern University; M.MEd. University of Illinois; Ph.D. University of Illinois) is an Associate Professor of Music Education and Chairperson of the Music Department at Rowan University. His research interests include comprehensive musicianship, and technology in music education. He has published articles in the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Edcuation, Contributions to Music Education, Gifted Child Today, and Update: Applications of Research in Music Education. Rick has given numerous technology related presentations at state, national, and international conferences including sessions for TI:ME, MidWest Band and Orchestra Clinic, Association for Technology in Music Instruction, College Music Society, Bergen (Norway) Interactive Music Conference, Delaware, Missouri, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania Music Educators Associations, and New Directions in Music Education.
Prior to teaching at Rowan, Rick was a music teacher (band and technology) and the Fine Arts Facilitator in the Ladue School District in suburban St. Louis for 13 years. Rick is co-founder (with David Williams) of MusicCreativity.org, a site dedicated to encouraging the development of technology-based music classes to reach the non-traditional music student.
He was honored as the 2010 TI:ME Mike Kovins Teacher of the Year, serves on the NJMEA Board of Directors and is the Treasurer of the Association for Technology in Music Instruction. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha, Phi Beta Mu, and is an honorary Friends of the Arts member of Sigma Alpha Iota.
