And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. ~Sylvia Plath

Hello! My name is Jennifer Fitzgerald, and I am a senior at Rowan University, majoring in Writing Arts. I will be graduating in May 2009. I am so excited to close this door in my life, and open the next. My life has had its ups and downs, and I am happy to say i am on a big upswing. Before I decided to return to college, I worked my way up from a foodserver to restaurant manager at the restuarant Chi-Chi's Mexican Restaurant. I went on to become the youngest General Manager in the company at 23 years old. Unfortunately, I was completely unhappy in this line of work. I left my position in 2002, and decided to return to college to get my degree in Education.

My first stop was Camden County College in Blackwood, New Jersey. I majored in Elementary Education there, and met a wonderful teacher named Dr. Jane Weber. She encouraged me to become President of the Education Club there. As president, I organized fundraisers and a year-end dinner for 75 people to raise money for needy South Jersey schools and clubs. We donated books to 2 middle schools, toys and educational materials to an after-school program in Camden, and college materials to graduating seniors who were members of the Boys and Girls Club in Camden. This was such a worthwhile experience, and it taught me how good it feels to give back to the community.

After graduating CCC, I transfered to Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. My original major was Elementary Educucation and Writing Arts. After taking several writing courses, I decided I would rather pursue a career in writing. I would like to teach at the college level, especially at a two-year school. College Composition, Literacy classes or beginning Education classes are all subjects I would be intested in teaching. These schools do not get the credit they deserve as strong educational institutions. Teachers like Dr. Weber are inspiring, and these schools provide a strong foundation for students wishing to transfer to four year schools. My other goals include opening a writing center where students can come for help with any type of writing, writing a mystery novel, (my favorite genre), and and continuing to give back to needy children in our area.

In addition to writing, I enjoy reading. Alot! All kinds of books line my shelves: mystery, chick lit, memoirs, autobiography, and many more. I am also a big sports fan, especially the Phillies and Eagles. Every spring my fiancee and I go to Phillies spring training in Clearwater, Florida. In fact, that is where we were engaged last March. His name is Tim and we are getting married next December. Yea, Christmas wedding! Also, I am a fantasy football nerd: this year I am involved in 3 leagues. I love playing poker, going to concerts, and reading anything I can get my hands on, especially magazines. On weekends, I work as a bartender at Ott's on the Green in Washington Twp. I have been there for almost 7 years while I make my way through college. It is a great place, and I love the people there. If your ever in the neighborhood, stop in some time!
