Bartender Literacy Powerpoint--Created March 2007 for Literacy's in
Today's World. The purpose of this assignment was to describe a place where we were fluent in it's specific literacy. We had to present this literacy as a visual ethnography, which showed in pictures the literacy
we were immersed in. I described "Bartender Literacy", which is the language used within the bar world that is necessary to be understood. I presented each category in powerpoint slides. Created by Jen Fitzgerald.

Christmas Commemorative Speech--Created 7/2006 for Public Speaking.
The purpose of this assignment was to write a 2 minute speech commemorating something important in our lives. I spoke about my childhood christmas memories. I like this piece because it shows my use of
the English language to create a picture in the listener's mind. Created by Jen Fitzgerald.

Barack Obama Campaign Speech--Created 5/2008 for a multi-genre project in The Writer's Mind.
The purpose of this assignment was to pick one subject, then use 5 different writing genres to get a message across. I chose Barack Obama for my subject. This is my version of an Obama speech along the
campaign trail.

Man's Best Friend--Created 12/2008 for Creative Writing I. This work focused on an animal, and we
were to incorporate all five senses. I wrote about a man stranded with his sled dogs in the Artic. I feel this work paints a vivid picture using sensory details, and evokes strong emotion from the reader.

Dream Angel--Created 12/2008 for Creative Writing. This piece was a four page
story told in the third-person. I wrote about a guy, Tommy, who has a serious drug addiction. Recently he had begun dreaming about a beautiful young woman. Then one day he sees her on the street. The story begins here. I enjoyed writing this very much
because I have lost a cousin to drug abuse, and I have seen the damage drugs do to a family and to the addict. I was able to give a hopeful ending here, whereas that was impossible in real life.

Cultural Autobiography --Created 6/2007 for Teaching in Learning Communities I.
This assignment forced us to look at ourselves and see how we have become who we are today from a cultural standpoint. It was a great way to take a critical eye to my upbringing and environment to see how it has affected me as I've matured.
Even though I am not an Education major anymore, I beleive it is important for all of us to look objectively at our past to understand why we think and behave the way we do, and to ensure the mistakes made my prior generations are not repeated.
