Syllabus

Level and Objectives

This course is the second part of an introduction to classical physics. This course serves as a general education requirement for students in chemistry, physics, math and engineering. It is also ageneral education elective for students in other fields. Physics II requires working knowledge of algebra, vectors, trigonometry, and basic derivatives and integrals.

The objectives of Physics I & Physics II are:

Topics:

1. Electricity & Magnetism:  Electric charge, Electric fields, Gauss’ Law, Electric Potential, Capacitance, Electricity& Electric Circuits, Magnetic Fields, Magnetic Fields due to Currents,Induction, Maxwell’s Equations
2. Wave Motion:  Oscillations, AC Circuits, Waves, Electromagnetic Waves
3. Optics: Images, Interference, Diffraction

Attendance Policy

Students are expected to be present at each schedule class. Students who are absent for reasons of illness, death in family, etc. should inform their instructors as soon as possible. Faculty are under no obligation to make special provisions for students absent for capricious reasons.

Course Requirements

Students are required to attend classes and labs, to do homework, to take tests and to write lab reports.
