PLEASE READ THIS EMAIL CAREFULLY before you register and/or before you come and visit me for advising.

  1. My office hours for advising are Tuesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 12 PM no appointment necessary (first come first serve).
  2. There is a program progress worksheet on the Environmental Studies web page which you should fill out to the best of your abilities BEFORE you come for advising (bring file on a flash drive or e-mail it to me ahead of time).
  3. The Environmental Studies Core Courses offered in the Fall of 2012 include.
    1. Environmental Studies Social Perspective (***this is now offered in the Fall while Physical Perspectives will be offered in the Spring from now on).
    2. Field Methods and Research Design (***this course is currently not listed in Banner but we will resolve this ASAP.  The course info: Lecture: MF 1215-130 Science Hall 241, Lab: W 1215-3 Science Hall 241)
  4. Environment, Policy and Society SOC08.400 (a program requirement) will NOT be offered in the Fall of 2011 because Dr. DeMond Miller is on sabbatical. Instead I will allow Population Geography GEOG06.304 to substitute while Dr. Miller is on leave this Fall.
  5. Remember these important issues as you are deciding your scheduling sequence.
    1. Statistics I - STAT02.260 should be taken as early as possible since it is a prerequisite for Field Methods ENST94.321 which is only offered in the Fall.
    2. Field Methods ENST94.321 is a prerequisite for both Environmental Impact Assessment ENST94.400 AND Senior Seminar I ENST94.401
    3. You must have 18 credits (6 courses) of program electives which can come from the list on the on the ENST Progress Worksheet. Other courses can also be accepted with my approval (they must have an obvious environmental theme in their course description).
    4. The courses that you choose for the program electives can be used toward a minor or concentration.  This is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED since it will distinguish your resume.  Courses for the following minors will count as ENST program electives. Common Minors/Concentration for ENST students include:
      1. Geography Minor
      2. Biology Minor
      3. GIS Concentration
      4. Planning Concentration
      5. Geoscience Concentration
  6. The following courses are being offered in the Department of Geography & Environment during the coming academic year that count toward the ENST program or ENST program electives.  Many fulfill the above concentrations / minors.
