Course Description:
This course is designed to
provide the student with the skills required to analyze electrical circuits.
It will focus on the understanding of current concepts in element definition
and currently accepted concepts in the application of the circuit parameters;
voltage, current and power.
Course
Outcomes:
By the end of this course, the
student will be able to:
- Have a working
knowledge of Ohm's Law, Kirchoff's Laws, Thevenin and Norton equivalent
circuits and circuit reduction techniques
- Apply circuit analysis
techniques to circuits consisting of passive electrical elements and the
operational amplifier.
- Perform direct current
analysis of passive circuits and transient response of circuits with a
single energy storage element (capacitor or inductor) solve these
equations for simple geometries using analytical techniques
- Perform circuit
simulations with Mentorgraphics
- Use MATLAB for
laboratory and homework assignments as a supplement to direct
calculations
