Early Childhood Education/Writing Arts
Teacher of the Handicapped
Ideally, I would eventually like to have my
own Autistic preschool classroom. I have worked at Atlantic County
Special Service School District for three years now. During my time
spent there I have realized that teaching Autistic children is not only
what I want to do but, also what I was meant to do. Every teacher goes
into their career hoping to make a change in the lives of their students
and that is exactly what I want to do. I know that the road I am heading
down is not going to be easy. It is going to be very frusterating and at
times heartbreaking but, I know that I have the patience and ambition to
take on whatever challenge is brought my way.
Currently, I have a
few other things going on aside from being a full time student. I am the
president of the Early Childhood Education Association at Rowan
University. We participate in numerous volunteer activties in the
surrounding area that involve children. Our club also participates in
various drives to collect food, clothing, books, etc. for
underpriviledged children and their families. Also, I currently visit
Milanesi Elementary School in Buena, NJ once a week for my field
placement in Education courses. I also subsitute teach a few days a week
in the Glassboro School District and at ACSSSD. Substituting and my
numerous field placements have provided me with vaulable experiences
that I will definately benifit from in the future. Additionally, I tutor math once a week. Finally, I am a
part-time gymnastics coach at Rainbow Gymnastics in Sewell, NJ. Mostly,
I coach five to seven year old girls. They can be quite challenging at
times but, they are awesome girls and I am getting a first hand lesson
on class management from them!
