Education and Training

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Education in the countryside suffers from serious deficiencies in funding and quality. The school drop-out rate is high and the socioeconomic situation is precarious. These are the reasons why children and young adults migrate to the city in search of better educational and living conditions.

One of the goals of our educational and training programs are to sensitize and motivate these children and young adults, peasant migrants to the city of Cuzco, to continue their studies.

In order to achieve this purpose, we have made connections with educational centers and institutes of higher education. These centers have signed contracts with us, agreeing to support us and the development of migrant children and young adults.

We are permanently on-call and available, ready to assist all house inhabitants. We also offer daily assistance and appointments with house inhabitants for the purpose of giving them support and clarifying concepts while they complete their school homework assignments.

JOB TRAINING

One of our goals for our house inhabitants is that, rather than having only a carrier's perspective on life, they acquire other skills so that they may meet their futures with better possibilities for success.

In order to achieve this goal, we inform our younger and older inhabitants of any training opportunities we become aware of. Half of the cost of these training courses will be paid for them.

Another responsibility of our administrative team is to help our house inhabitants in their job placement searches after they complete their occupational development.

EDUCATIONAL, INFORMATIVE, AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Beyond academic assistance, the Casa del Cargador inhabitants find a welcoming environment where they may engage in games that exercise both mind and body, like chess, table tenis, monopoly, volleyball, and soccer. Furthermore, we provide information on topics of interest necessary for their personal development, such as self-esteem, knowing our bodies, alcoholism, birth control, etc. These activities are offered in the evenings, Mondays through Saturdays, for one hour per night.

INFORMATION AND TRAINING FOR ROOT ORGANIZATIONS (CARRIERS AND/OR STEVEDORES FROM A VARIETY OF FOOD MARKETS)

This training is carried out under the leadership of the Casa del Cargador Social Promotor, with the different organizations' objectives in mind.
