MOSFET POWER AMP

I started this amp a while ago which started from an article i saw in Popular Electronics. I've always prefered the sound of MOSFETs to conventional bipolars in SS amplifiers. They sound a little closer to tubes and react more naturally. This may be possible due to the fact that they respond slower than many standard bipolars used in many current power amps. This amp provides approximately 1200 Watts RMS into 4-Ohm load and will be stable to 1-Ohm.

The specs are posted below:

Frequency Response: 5-300KHz

THD: 0.05% Full Power

Slew Rate: 220V/us

Output Current Handling (Transient): 50A max. @ 1-Ohm

S/N Ratio: 100dB, 20-20KHz

Amplifier Weight (with 2U case): 20lbs

The output stages use IRFP240s and comp. p-channel, which are decent MOSFETs made by International Rectifier.

The amp is still under construction with just mounting and final wiring to be finished. I will be posting several pics and more data for the amp soon.

more to come!!!
