Dr. Patricia
Mosto, Interim Associate Provost

Dr. Patricia
Mosto has extensive environmental science experience. She has
been actively involved with field and laboratory projects related to
water quality and water pollution issues for the last 30 years.
She was the assistant curator at the Collection of Algae at the
University of Texas in Austin. She was a Consultant with the
University of Southern California in a NOAA project in coastal
pollution. She worked with the Department of Water and Power and
the Department of Sanitation in Los Angeles, CA for 10 years. In
that capacity, she was a team member and Laboratory Director of the
Research and Development Division, an interdisciplinary group of
scientist and engineers for Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant
problem solving and design. Prior to coming to Rowan, she was a
researcher at the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia, working
in algal toxins. She received a MS from Drexel University, and a
Ph.D. from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, both in
environmental sciences. She has received grants from the American Water
Works Association (AWWA), the New Jersey Department of Environmental
Protection (NJDEP), The National Science Foundation (NSF), and the
Argentinean Ministry of Defense. Besides her teaching and research at
Rowan, she was a consultant with Rohm & Hass in biocidal control of
subaerial algae, and she is actually a consultant with the Argentinean
Navy, studying coastal pollution. She has received a total of 23
grants.
Dr. Mosto joined Rowan University in 1993 as an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences. She is now a tenured Full Professor, and is on leave as the Department Chair of the Biology Science Department while being the Interim Associate Provost. She has been actively involved in research projects with undergraduate students. In her 12 years at Rowan, she has directed and supervised more than 50 independent undergraduate projects. Dr. Mosto is a dedicated teacher and scholar, who was nominated to the Rowan’s Teacher Hall of Fame in 1998, 2000 and 2001. Dr. Mosto has published major chapters in 4 books, 43 articles in peer-reviewed journals, 33 research abstracts, and 47 peer-reviewed technical reports. She has presented (a total of 106 presentations) her research at local, national and international conferences, and she is an active member of many professional Associations. At the present time she is co-writing a text-book in Environmental Ethics to be published in 2005.
