Europe 2010 Part 2
A visit to a sheep farm in Bergerie dÕAcremont, Bertrix. A small family farm.
The lambs.
Just born.
The sheep milk, yogurt, and several cheeses. Good stuff.
Dinner at the hotel in Cugnon.
Followed by a drink or two.
A wet morning greeted us as we explored a nearby cemetery
before the drive to the Abbey of Orval in Florenville..
The Belgian monks brew some great beer here.
The Abbey has some middle age buildings.
Some new buildings.
And some in ruins.
Only about a dozen monks live here.
We also visited the Cathedral of Avioth nearby.
Great gargoyles.
A famous wooden statue of the Virgin Mary and Jesus.
Nice stained glass.
We stopped for lunch at a grain farm in Brienne-sur-Aisne.
We heard another tale of woe from a small farmer.
Then a visit to the champagne region (Reims) and the Tattinger cellars.
The champagne bottles were everywhere.
A size to please everyone.
Each bottle is hand turned and these caves ran deep. ThatÕs a lot of turning!
Ah yes, we got to try the stuff as well.
The alter in the Cathedral of Reims.
The exterior was under renovation.
Statues on the west side suffered much and were being duplicated.
Above the entrance.
Flying buttresses.
Dinner in the Hotel Bagatelle. Ham?
