Europe 2010 Part 7
On the road again the next day.
The entrance to LouisÕ XIV sat works, Arc et Senans.
Headquarters. The manager lived here as well as ran the business in this building.
And here is where the workers and their families lived.
Lunch at this small restaurant near the source of the Loue River.
Here is where the river appears above ground.
The railing indicates people used to be able to go into the cave.
Quite a dramatic appearance.
And here is the source of much fun.
Then a visit to a cheese makers and the trail there was really the narrow back roads.
We learned a lot.
Big blending kettles.
Then we got to try the cheese with some beer and wine and pastry. Great!
A lot of cheese. All the cows whose milk goes into his cheese are the brown and white
ones we saw everywhere. 24 farms and 4.3 million liters.
Into Switzerland via the winding roads through the mountains.
The hotel is somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Quiet and very nice.
Had cheese fondue for dinner!!
Beautiful view.
Very nice sunset. Heard lots of presentations by the students this evening.
A short ride form the hotel the next morning brought us to a wind and solar energy farm.
Fog on the mountains and solar panels.
Stopped here on the way to Colmar to see a glacier lake. Bath houses.
Pretty lake.
Art in the round abouts.
Colmar is the city of storks. We saw hundreds.
Went to Stork Park to see these folks.
They like it high.
Then we visited Beauville to see their linens.
Pretty stuff.
And on to an Alsace wine maker.
Vines all in a row for good drainage.
We tasted and bought.
Dinner at the Caveau Chez Bacchus where they had puppet shows.
