Munich Prague Berlin 2014

Haley and Holly waiting for the flight from Heathrow to Munich.

Matt and Virginia wait too.

Our tour guide, Raliza Nikolowa, has met us at the Munich airport

and we await a couple members from other schools.

Our transport for most of the trip, driven by Jannish.

Our hotel in Munich, the Fidelio.

Luggage unloaded.

A tiny elevator took us up to our room.

We took a walk into the town center and saw a McDonalds near the gateway.

The gateway was impressive.

Street art, a catfish and boar.

A restful spot.

Raliza tells us about the Frauenkirche ("Cathedral of Our Dear Lady") (under renovation)

that serves as the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and seat of its Archbishop.

It is considered a symbol of the Bavarian capital city.

Marienplatz is the home of the large Rathaus (City Hall) with its clock

and the Virgin Mary atop the MariensŠule.

New City Hall was built between 1867 and 1908

by Georg von Hauberrisser in a Gothic Revival architecture style.

These characters become animated on the hour.

The gargoyles make it clear this is a government building.

Fish eye of the Feldherrnhalle that was built between 1841 and 1844 at the southern end of Munich's Ludwigstrasse.

The Feldherrnhalle was a symbol of the honors of the Bavarian Army.

It contains statues of military leaders Johann Tilly and Karl Philipp von Wrede.

It was the site of the Beer Hall Putsch

The Catholic Collegiate Church of St. Cajetan in Munich , called Theatinerkirche

is the first in the style of the Italian late Baroque church built north of the Alps.

Under repair like so many Munich buildings.

The Munich Residenz (Munich Residence) is the former royal palace of the Bavarian monarchs

of the House of Wittelsbach. It is the largest city palace in Germany.

Raliza tells us about the National Theatre in the Max-Joseph-Platz that is a large square

in central Munich that was named after King Maximilian Joseph.

Statue of King Maximilian 1st of Bavaria in Max-Joseph-Platz outside the Nationaltheater Munchen.

One of the interesting streets we saw on our walk.

Jenna with street performer outside the Hofbrauhaus.

We all enjoyed the brew at the Hofbrauhaus.

We also enjoyed our second dessert.

The Maypole at the Viktualienmarkt.

We stayed in the market after our tour and drank a few beers.

The place had dozens and dozens of picnic tables and hundreds of people.
