South Africa
Part 8
We entered Lesotho into the city of Maseru. As much for
sale outside as inside the shops.
These signs were everywhere.
A common site.
Maseru market.
We think this is the Palace of the King.
Out of town and on the road.
Land erosion from the rain.
Herders and herd at a watering hole.
Some nicer homes.
Shacks too.
Gathering wood.
Typical village.
Another village.
These homes look nice.
Nice view.
Nicer homes had gates and fences.
We exited Lesotho by the Ficksburg Bridge and drove to
the feedlot called Sparta.
82 thousand cattle a year go through here each year.
Natural feed storage. There where several of these huge
bunkers.
Feed additives.
Natural feed (corn mostly) plus additives are mixed and
placed in these very large plastic tubes.
It is a very large company.
The feed and additives attract many birds.
They are there only a short time though.
The owners of Sparta (Lou and Dionne) put us up in a
nearby hotel in Marquand.
They also bought us dinner and breakfast.
The next morning we are off to the airport in JÕBurg.
Shacks along the way.
We saw many slightly better homes with solar hot water.
We stopped in Vereeniging (south of JÕBurg) at a golf
course for lunch.
Lots of traffic as we got closer to the airport.
The return flight was on time.
