This bulletin is intended for teachers who are enrolled in the New Jersey Alternate Route Program and registered at a site managed by Rowan University. Alternate Route Program Structure Change

The New Jersey Department of Education has recently changed the overall structure of the Alternate Route Program. Teachers currently enrolled came in under a 200 hour program that consists of the following: Phase I-A (20 hours), Phase I-B (60 hours), Phase II (60 hours), Phase III (60 hours). Under this structure, candidates secured a CE (Certificate of Eligibility), got a teaching job, and took these classes.

Beginning in October 2009, the new structure will require that candidates complete a 24 Hour course BEFORE they can apply for their CE. Once the candidate completes this course and receives a CE, then the candidate can be hired. Once hired the candidate will complete a 200 hour Alternate Route Program consisting of: Phase I (80 hours), Phase II (60 hours), Phase III (60 hours).

This means that anyone currently enrolled (Fall 2009) in our program MUST complete Phase I-A immediately. The last section is listed below. If you have not yet taken I-A, you MUST enroll in this section. Phase I-A consists of five classes. If you are beginning the program after Jan. 1, 2010, you do not have to take Phase IA.

Registration for Class
• Due to room size, the number of teachers we can enroll is limited.
• To register for these classes, please e-mail Dr. Levy at levy@rowan.edu.
• You may not attend without registering.

• You must have a check for $145 at the first class meeting made out to:
