Psychomotor Objectives in
Physical Education

Psychomotor objectives are statements of student outcomes in a lesson or unit which pertain to skill improvement and/or physical fitness development.  Well written psychomotor objectives explain what skill or fitness accomplishments students will demonstrate as the result of the lesson or unit.  They also imply assessment - the teacher needs to write objectives so that the student skill and/or fitness outcome is clearly stated and is observable or measureable by the teacher, student and/or other students.  Skill improvement objectives will refer to an observable skill improvement or adaptation (see 1., below).  Fitness related objectives will refer to improvement in a measure of health or performance fitness (see 2., below).

Psychomotor objectives (soccer, 8th grade):

1.  Students will perform a push pass with a moving ball and proper instep contact, with 80% accuracy to a partner 10 yards away (NJCCC Standard 2.5.A1)*
