About
The Professor
Harry Rhea grew up in Delran, New Jersey. After graduating from high
school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he developed
his competitive work ethic and leadership skills. After fours years of
service, he was honorably discharged and began his academic career
attending Burlington County College. He completed an A.S. and B.A. from
Rutgers University in less than 2 1/2 years. He then went on to Saint
Joseph’s University’s Graduate Criminal Justice Program and
completed his M.S. concentrating in Law Enforcement Intelligence and Crime
Analysis.
During college and
graduate school, Professor Rhea attended the Salzburg Law School on
International Criminal Law in Austria in 2001 and 2003, where he studied
international criminal law, international humanitarian law, and human
rights law. Also, in 2003, Harry studied the international criminal process
and international human rights law at New College, Oxford University, UK. He
has taught for several universities in the Philadelphia region, including
La Salle University, Rutgers University, Holy Family University, Chestnut
Hill College, Burlington County College, and Saint Joseph’s
University’s Graduate Criminal Justice Program. Professor Rhea has
been a full-time faculty member for Rowan’s Department of Law and
Justice Studies since September/2005. He has developed and taught courses
on international criminal law for, both, Rowan and La Salle Universities,
and is currently co-teaching, with Dr. Mary Gallant, a course on genocide
and justice which they co-developed.
Professor Rhea is
completing his Ph.D. in Law at the Irish Centre for Human Rights, National
University of Ireland, Galway. His research strengths are in the fields of
international criminal tribunals, i.e. Nuremberg, ICTY, ICTR, ICC, and the
Special Iraqi Tribunal prosecuting Saddam Hussein; and international and
transnational crimes, i.e. war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide
and terrorism. Current research in progress include police adjustments
after 9/11 with Dr. Allan Jiao; religious perspectives on the death penalty
and its application for international crimes; and US’ issues
concerning the International Criminal Court.
Hobbies include
reading, running, and karate. Most important, he enjoys spending his free
time with his wife, Aimee, and daughter (dog), Laila. Harry and Aimee are
expecting their first child, a son, in June.
