When I graduated from Rowan with a B.A. in history and a concentration in Asian Studies, I wasn't sure what to do next. I had toyed with various ideas including going back to school for graduate work in Asian or Medieval History. However, a strong knowledge of various languages is needed for any advanced history work. After doing some research, it became clear that a future as a history professor would be a difficult ordeal, that would not necessarily end up the way I wanted it to. At this point, I decided to move in another direction.
Rowan had treated me well, and I decided to stay in the area to pursue an advanced degree. Writing always interested me, so I got in touch with program director for the Rowan M. A. in Writing program, Dr. Diane Penrod. Dr. Penrod, was extremely helpful about the whole admission process and in helping me decided whether this program was right for me. At this time, I also decided to get in touch with a couple of teachers in the program that taught classes that interested me. This went well also, and I decided to take Advanced Feature Writing for print media with Dr. Carl Hausman, and Writing for Electronic Communities with Dr. Bill Wolff. These classes were helpful to me in determining the future course of my studies. Writing for Electronc Communities (WEC) introduced me to various disciplines and sub-disciplines that I had hitherto been unaware of. These included participatory culture, semiotics, and composition studies.
This summer, I took Introduction to Web Design with Professor Bill Wolff. In June and July of this summer, I will be taking a class called Creative Hypertext with Dr. Wolff again.
I expect to graduate with my Master's Degree in Writing in May of 2010. Upon graduation, I expect to teach and to continue my education, either with another Master's degree or with a ph.D.
