When I say they train at a high level, I mean it.
One of the guys told me that the group goes around
to the most competitive dojos in the city, doing demonstrations.
They tell the guys at the dojo to send their best fighter to the
mat. Our group sends the worst. And he wins. Every time.
Our guy broke his opponent's right arm and ankle last time.
Our reputation is growing.
I trained in various types of karate and jiu-jutsu for 13 years,
earning three black belts. When I came to train here, the guys
training for six months were beating me down. By that I don't mean
we were sparring, and they scored more points than me. I mean I
have broken bones, and cuts on my arms and hands.
I cannot hit these guys. They are too fast.
I swing, and
they are behind me. I swing again, and I'm on my back. What
have I been doing all these years? What good is punching a brick
out of a wall if your opponent is too fast?
I wake up sore every day. I will persevere. I will be the
best. I will not give up. I will not be a victim.
