My name is Brittany Shaw and I am 21 years old. I am a junior at Rowan University, majoring in Elementary Education and Writing Arts. I love to work with children and can't wait to begin teaching. I am currently working for Gloucester Township Public Schools Latchkey Program. I get to work with children every day which I love and it is great experience. My job consists of doing homework with the children, organizing games, and giving them snack. My goal is to finish at Rowan University and find a job in Gloucester Township where I currently am employed. I think the administration, teachers, and staff are excellent and really care for the children.
I believe my teaching philosophy is progress. I believe that children have to acquire the knowledge and ability to function in today's world. I believe they should be taught the basic skills of everyday life and how to solve problems effectively. I want to give clear instructions to my students so they understand what I'm teaching and make them feel comfortable asking questions when they don't understand. I plan to use a lot of problem solving activities in my classroom so the children can prove to me they understand. I would love to use collaborative learning so the children learn to work together. I want to be the type of teacher who gives continuous feedback to help increase my students learning and understanding. I think the curriculum needs to be more about the children. I think this will make students more interested in learning.
In my spare time I coach cheerleading for GT Stallions. I am the coach coordinator and have many responsibilities. I love to work with the girls and make a difference in their life. I also coach softball for Glendora Girls Athletic League. I enjoy spending time with my family, especially my two nephews, CJ and Nate. It is amazing to watch these two boys as they mature and learn. I also just recently got engaged and bought a house with my fiance Matt. If you want to know any more about me please feel free to email me.
