Laboratory Project 4

Digital Bandpass Communications

Objectives

In this project, you will develop and end-to-end simulation of the 16-channel QAM digital bandpass communications system, and study its performance in the presence of additive white Gaussian noise.

Software

Refer to Chapter 2 of the Matlab & Simulink Communications Toolbox Getting Started Guide.

Project Requirements

• Generate a random binary data stream and modulate a 16-channel QAM system, display the constellation diagram.
• Add white Gaussian Noise in the range of +/- 3dB and display the constellation diagram.
• Demodulate the received signal and display the received data symbols.
• Compute the BER for the range of SNRs; at what SNR would you consider the BER “significant”?
