Course Description:

Electrical communications systems covers the fundamentals of analog and digital communications systems. This includes baseband and bandpass, analog and digital signaling techniques along with appropriate mathematical background in Fourier transforms, probability and random variables. Both software and hardware designs are introduced. 

Instructional Objectives:

By the end of this course, the student will be able to – 
  • Identify and describe analog (AM and FM) and digital (Baseband and Bandpass) communications signals in the time and spectral domains.
  • Calculate the spectrum, modulation index and efficiency of analog and digital communications signals in the time and spectral domains, using both software and hardware platforms.
  • Design contemporary analog and digital communications systems and circuits, using both software and hardware platforms.
  • Evaluate the noise performance of various analog and digital communications systems.

Prerequisites: Math for Engineering Analysis II - MATH 01.236, Networks II - ECE 09. 202 Minimum Grade of C, Digital I - ECE 09.241 and Electronics I - ECE 09.311
