Eight students and two Rowan University faculty members spent four days traveling Oregon and Eastern Washington to study ice age floods. More than 12,000 years ago, a series of cataclysmic floods devastated the area, performing spectacular geomorphic work. Abandoned channels, streamlined hills, and boulders displaced by flood water are all remnants of the Missoula Floods’ awesome power and immensity. Studying and understanding these ancient floods, provides valuable insight on our modern floods as we continue to attempt to control the relatively uncontrollable.
