- Purpose
- To demonstrate that two different rods can become oppositely charged by rubbing with the same piece of fur resulting in both attractive and repulsive forces.
- Location
- Room 146, shelf L2
- Description
- Set up the rod stand with a metal stirrup suspended by a string. Vigorously rub the long, white (Teflon) rod with the fur and center it in the stirrup. Vigorously rub the hollow, grey (plastic) rod with the fur and hold it near the charged end of the suspended white rod, repelling it and causing it to rotate. Next, vigorously rub the glass rod with the same fur and hold it near the charged end of the suspended rod, attracting it and causing to rotate towards the glass rod.
