- Purpose
- To show that a student can be made to rotate by giving him/her some angular momentum
- Location
- Room 136, on the stainless steel cart shelves V1 & V3
(Caution: Platform is heavy.)
- Description
- Get the bicycle wheel spinning then give it to a student standing on the rotational platform (left photo). He can then extract some angular momentum by rotating the axis of the wheel 180 so it is spinning in the opposite direction (right photo). Conservation of angular momentum requires that he begin rotating. CAUTION: Not too fast, and stop before the student gets dizzy.
