- Purpose
- To demonstrate that thermoelectric effects can be used to power a small electric motor.
- Location
- room 136, P4; hot plate on shelf I5; beaker tong on I4
- Description
- This device operates when the legs are placed in reservoirs with a temperature difference between them (Seebeck Effect). The simplest way to do this demo is to use cold (below 25 C) tap water and hot (at least 60 C) water (as shown). It may take a few minutes for the aluminum legs to reach a large enough temperature difference, and the fan will need a push to get it started.
- (The older unit requires liquid nitrogen and warm water in Styrofoam cups.)
