Current SPPRL Members

Robert Capo received his BSc from Rowan in ECE (2013), and will be working on active learning in nonstationary environments. He already has an IJCNN publication under for his undergraduate work on active learning version of COMPOSE. Rob will be teaching Freshman Clinic as a teaching fellow.
Charlotte Cecere received her BSc in ECE from Rowan in ECE (2013). She is the recipient of numerous awards for her academic achievements as well as outreach efforts. Most recently, she served as the president of Rowan’s IEEE Chapter. She will be working on early diagnosis of AD, while teaching Digital 1 as a teaching fellow.
Anthony Samaritano received his BSc in ECE from Rowan (2012). A true embedded systems guru, Tony even built his own quadrocopter. He is working on developing biologically inspired computational models based on our understanding of the nervous system.
William Jones received his BSc in ECE from Rowan (2012). He is fascinated by all things computers, especially vintage ones. He is currently working on evaluating a comprehensive set of biomarkers for AD diagnosis.
Karl Dyer received his BSc in ME from Rowan (2010). A truly talented engineer, problem solver, master programmer and yes, a marathon runner, Karl has ten talents on his ten fingers. He is the mastermind behind the COMPOSE algorithm.
Matt Karnick received his BSc in ECE from Rowan (2006). He is working on domain adaptation as a part time graduate student, while also working full time as a control systems engineer at Primary Systems in New York area.

Past Graduates of SPPRL

Gregory Ditzler received his BSc in ECE from Penn College of Technology (2010), and MS in ECE from Rowan (2011). A mathematical and programming genius, Greg developed algorithms for learning from imbalanced nonstationary environments. He is currently a PhD student at Drexel, and is still involved with SPPRL. He already has over a dozen publications to his name.
Ryan Elwell received his BSc and MS in ECE from Rowan (2009, 10). Ryan worked on developing the Learn++.NSE algorithm. An avid Phillies fan, he is currently a researcher with US Army CERDEC.
Metin Ahiskali received his BSc and MS in ECE from Rowan (2009, 10), his thesis was on biomarker fusion for AD diagnosis. A true Yankees fan, he also works at CERDEC.
John LaRocco received his BSc in BME (TCNJ, 2009) and MS in ECE from Rowan (2011), working on the effects of meditation on BCI. A parkour runner and martial arts enthusiast, he is currently a PhD student at Univ. of Canterbury in New Zealand.
Dr. Devi Parikh received her BSc in ECE from Rowan (2005), her MS and PhD degrees from Carnegie Mellon (2007, 09). She published her first journal paper (in IEEE Trans. on SMC) as an undergraduate, developing Learn++ for data fusion problems. She is currently an Assistant Professor of ECE at Virginia Tech.
Michael Muhlbaier received his BSc and MS in ECE from Rowan (2003, 05). He is the mastermind behind Learn++.NC. He is a true entrepreneur, and is the President of Spaghetti Engineering, a product development company for automotive industry. He also is an adjunct professor art Rowan ECE, teaching digital and embedded systems.
Hussein Syed-Mohammed a native of Singapore, he received his BSc in CS (2004) and MS in ECE (2005) from Rowan. He worked on Learn++.MF for missing feature analysis. He then studied marketing at Wharton, and is currently a Strategic Marketing Manager at Honeywell in Shanghai, China.
Aliasgar Gangardiwala received his BSc in ECE from Rowan (2005) and worked on Learn++ and AdaBoost comparisons as an undergraduate student. He was so impressed with Matlab that he now works for Mathworks as a senior code generator engineer.
Brian Balut, received his BSc and MS in ECE from Rowan (2007, 08). He worked on choosing the most informative electrode in ERP analysis for AD diagnosis. He is currently a researcher with US Army CERDEC.

Apostolos Topalis, received BSc and MS in ECE from Rowan (2003, 05). Along with M. Muhlbaier, he worked on Learn++.NC but also on biomarker fusion for AD diagnosis. He works as a contractor for Lockheed Martin, as well as for Spaghetti Engineering with Muhlbaier.
