2024/10: New publication in Advanced Intelligent Systems. The title is "Versatile Standing Wave Generation Between Arbitrarily Oriented Surfaces Using Acoustic Metasurface Deflectors and Retroreflectors". Congratulations to Chadi and all co-authors!

2024/10: Our systematic review on the inverse design of phononic (acoustic and elastic) metamaterials have been published in Materials Today. The title is "Inverse design of phononic meta-structured materials".

2024/08: New publication in Device on active sound absorbers. The work is in collaboration with Nanjing University, City University of New York, and University of Technology Sydney.

2024/05: New publication in Energies. The title is "Non-Contact Wind Turbine Blade Crack Detection Using Laser Doppler Vibrometers".

2024/03: New work on underwater votex generation is published in APL Materials. The title is "Underwater Double Vortex Generation Using 3D Printed Acoustic Lens and Field Multiplexing".

2024/03: Dr. Shen has received the prestigious National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award, congratulations! The grant will support us in developing novel surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices with tunable functionality. Read the Rowan Today story.

2024/03: Our work on elastic wave rainbow trapping is published in The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America. Congratulations to all authors!

2024/02: Prof. Amir K. Miri and Prof. Sagnik Basuray from New Jersey Institute of Technology visited our lab.

2023

2023/11: Our contributed review paper "Acoustic resonances in non-Hermitian open systems" is out in Nature Reviews Physics. In this paper, we systematically reviewed the fundamental concepts and recent progress in non-Hermitian acoustic resonances.

2023/09: *New team member* Maral Ghanami joined the lab as a Ph.D. student. Welcome on board!

2023/09: The 45th PIERS (PhotonIcs and Electromagnetics Research Symposium) will be held on April 21-25, 2024 in Chengdu, China. We are organizing a session "Acoustic/Phononic Metamaterials, Metasurfaces, and Metadevices" with Dr. Lujun Huang from East China Normal University. More information can be found here. We welcome submissions related to acoustic/phononic metamaterials and metasurfaces, non-Hermitian acoustics, novel sound-matter interactions, practical applications of metadevices, and so on.

2023/06: Chadi presented his work "3D-Printed Shadow Waveguide-Based Acoustofluidic Device for Microparticle Trapping and Manipulation" in the Sampe 2023 Regional Additive Manufacturing Symposium.

2023/05: New publication in Applied Physics Reviews entitled "Deep-learning-aided metasurface design for megapixel acoustic hologram". The work is also featured in AIP News.

2023/05: Gbenga's work on Bound States in the Continuum (BICs) is published in Physical Review B. Congratulations!

2023/05: Joshua Lloyd, Cole Ludwikowski, and Cyrus Malik won the Best Clinic Team award in the Department of Mechanical Engineering for their Engineering Clinics project. Congratulatios!

2023/05: Katerina Stojanoska successfully defended her master's thesis and obtained M.Sc. degree. Congratulatios!

2023/05: Our contributed work "Bound States in the Continuum Protected by Reduced Symmetry of Three-Dimensional Open Acoustic Resonators" has been published in Physical Review Applied.

2023/04: Our lab receives an NSF grant to support research on acoustofluidics-integrated tumor models. The project will be in collaboration with Dr. Amir Miri from New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).

2023/04: Congratulations to undergraduate students Joshua Lloyd, Cole Ludwikowski, and Cyrus Malik on publishing their first paper from the Engineering Clinics project they are working on. Check out the paper Mitigating Inaudible Ultrasound Attacks on Voice Assistants with Acoustic Metamaterials.

2023/03: Dr. Lea Beilkin-Sirota from Tel Aviv University, Israel visited our lab and gave a talk on analogous quantum tunneling in classical systems.

2023/03: Congratulations to Ali and Chadi on their new publication in Frontiers in Materials. The title is "Tunable, reconfigurable, and programmable acoustic metasurfaces: A review".

2023/02: Our lab received funding from New Jersey Health Foundation (NJHF) to study focused ultrasound.

2022/12: Olugbenga Gbidi successfully defended his master's thesis and obtained M.Sc. degree. Congratulatios!

2022/11: Our new work on underwater acoustic metamaterials is published in Advanced Engineering Materials and is featured as Editor's Choice. The title is "Anisotropic Metallic Microlattice Structures for Underwater Operations".

2022/11: Our contributed work "General Framework of Bound States in the Continuum in an Open Acoustic Resonator" has been published in Physical Review Applied.

2022/09: Our lab received funding from New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) to study condition monitoring of wind turbines.

2022/06: New publication in Applied Physics Letters. The title is "Non-Hermitian planar elastic metasurface for unidirectional focusing of flexural waves".

2022/05: Katerina attended the 182nd Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Denver and presented her work on non-Hermitian elastic metasurfaces. Check out the abstract here.

2022/05: Together with Dr. Taehwa Lee from Toyota Motor North America and Prof. Qingbo He from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, we are organizing a special issue on acoustic/elastic wave sensing in Frontiers in Physics (IF=3.560). More information can be found here.

2022/05: Our contributed work "Topological Supercavity Resonances in the Finite System" has been published in Advanced Science.

2021

2021/12: Dr. Shen receives the Frances R. Lax Fund for Faculty Development. Congratulations!

2021/12: The 24th International Congress on Acoustics (ICA 2022) will be held in Gyeongju, Korea from October 24 to 28, 2022. Dr. Shen and Prof. Yadong Xu from Soochow University are organizing an "Acoustic Metasurfaces" session. The abstract can be submitted here. The deadline for abstract submission is March 15th, 2022.

2021/11: Undergraduate students Ian Meighan and Edward De Asis attended the 181st Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in Seattle and successfully presented their work on multiplexed acoustic holography. The meeting abstract can be found here.

2021/08: Dr. Shen gave an invited talk at the 50th International Congress and Exposition on Noise Control Engineering (Inter Noise 2021) on acoustic gradient-index metasurfaces. The paper can be found here.

2021/06: Our contributed work "Breaking the acoustic diffraction limit with an arbitrary shape acoustic magnifying lens" has been published in Scientific Reports.
