The Jersey Devil
According to legends, the Jersey Devil was born in Leeds Point in 1735 to a woman named Mother Leeds. A deformed baby, it eventually escaped its home and into the wilds of the Pine Barrens. In most accounts, the creature allegedly looks like a dinosaur-dragon mix, with large wings and a snout. The Jersey devil has been accused of horrifying unlucky citizens and attacking animals.
Over the years, many have claimed to have witnessed the monster, including Napoleon’s brother Joseph Bonaparte. The Jersey Devil has even been reported to have been spotted across the Delaware in Philadelphia! People in New Jersey have gone on hunts seeking to capture the creature. In fact, the Philadelphia Zoo once offered $10,000 to anyone who could nab the creature. So far, the Jersey Devil has proved elusive.
