The Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail

The Appalachian Trail runs 2,198.4 miles from Georgia to Maine. 72.4 of those miles run through New Jersey, including in the Wallkill National Wildlife Reserve, the Stokes State Forest and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.

Along the New Jersey section of the Appalachian Trail, also known as the AT, is Buttermilk Falls, the highest waterfall in the state. The path also goes to High Point, NJ’s highest elevation. Also on the trail are several spots for kayaking, boating and fishing, including Wawayanda Lake. Hikers can spot a variety of wildlife, including the barred owl and the eastern goldfinch, the New Jersey state bird.
