Standardizing the Internet of Things

Through the past decade, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0 has taken the world by storm. With this has come many infrastructures and implementation methodologies all which will eventually need to be used together. Our work in adapting the IEEE 1451 Family of Stanards for the Internet of Things provides the framework for a common architecture which facilitates interoperability.

MemSat: Memristor CubeSat

On July 11, 2018 MemSat was deployed from the International Space Station into Low Earth Orbit to test new resistive memory technology in space environment. A combined effort of over 100 students through the Rowan University College of Engineering Clinic Program, this is the first Academic Cubesat project funded in New Jersey.

Innovative Pedagogical Approach

Introduction to Embedded Systems

By focusing on mini-design projects called Milestones throughout the semester, students have found that the lab exercises traditionally performed have much more importance in developing embedded systems. All lab exercises and Milestone projects are managed through GitHub Classroom where students are responsible for maintaining repositories of their own code, where their documentation is cental in their overall lab performance.

Innovative Pedagogical Approach

Principles of Electric Circuit Analysis

Giving students the opportunity to immeditely see the concepts which are being covered are paramount to how this class is taught. From in-class lab exercises which verify the calculations and theories at the board to the design-oriented labs where students are required to utilize microcontrollers, this pedgogy is a truly unique and powerful approach to an otherwise standard class.
