Freshmen
and Sophomores
Prepare
for College Now!!!
- Meet
your counselor and introduce yourself. Encourage your parents to also
meet with your counselors and teachers.
- Inform
your school guidance counselor that you plan to attend a four year college
or university and that your class schedule must include appropriate
college preparatory courses. Participate in academic enrichment programs.
- Make
sure you take an Algebra I, II, Geometry, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
as well as foreign language class.
- Be sure
to maintain an "A" or "B" grade point average (Try
your Best)
- Begin
now to prepare for the PSAT exam. You may take the exam in your Sophomore
year. Ask your high school counselor or a C.H.A.M.P. Counselor about
this exam and how to prepare for it.
- Form
a study group with a few friends who also plan to go to college.
- Create
a personal file with items such as:
A
copy of your report cards
Diplomas
and other certificates presented to you
A
list of awards and honors you received
A
list of all school and community clubs and organizations and a
list of all offices you have held in these organizations
A
list of jobs you have held (paid of volunteer)
- Update
your personal file at the end of each semester
- Visit
a local community college or four year institution with your family
or friends. Before your visit, call the Office of Admissions for information.
- Participate
in academic enrichment programs.
- Keep
your eyes and ears open to any pre-college programs and trips that are
being offered through your school.
