PT3 Participant Activities

 

During the Spring semester or Summer of 2000, 19 faculty member from the School of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, or the College of Music received a reduced course load (AWA) to allow time to improve technology skills and work on integrating technology into one or more courses. The participants attended a variety of project sessions and training events. They all stated that the extra time was significant incentive for professional development. The project participants along with their with their accomplishments are list below.

Elementary Education

Refined use of PowerPoint and used interactively with students. Put materials into BlackBoard. Integrated tech use into student assignments.

Floyd Richmond

Music History

Learned to program Java Script to design quiz templates. Templates allow for construction of multiple choice quizzes with several variations. Students learned to use templates in methods course.

Tom Mastrilli

Professional and Secondary Education

Used BlackBoard to post syllabus, readings for secondary methods course. Also, developed Hyperstudio and PowerPoint materials for the course

Charles Hardy

History

While working with students at the University of the Arts, Philadelphia in a sound communications program, produced oral histories incorporating sound. Learned new sound editing tools. Learned PowerPoint. Put course materials on BlackBoard.

Vicki McGinley

Special Education

Facilitated student authoring of web pages designed to be resources for inclusion in regular classrooms. Students uploaded pages to BlackBoard and received feedback from students at another university.

Robert Fletcher

English

Learned BlackBoard. And constructed a joint course website for survey courses taught by him at WCU and by a colleague at Cedar Crest College in Allentown. Used website for feedback and class management. Constructed a class project web site using new web authoring skills.

 Designed PowerPoint course materials. Explored web resources to be used in curriculum development in various content areas.

Marlene Goss

Professional and Secondary Education

Worked with WCU colleagues to enrich technology course through a wide variety of technology activities including web authoring, video-conferencing, K-12 student visits. Participated with project directors in grant deliverables.

Wally Kahn

Counseling and Educational Psychology

Explored use of WebCT for web-enhanced course. Researched use of various technologies.

David Bolton

Professional and Secondary Education

Created 3 instructional units. Experimented with using WebCT to put course materials on the web. Learned to redirect e-mail in MS Outlook. Developed Internet resources in area of assessment.

Elementary Education

Explored the use of video technology to capture classroom vignettes. Discussed with publisher development o CD-ROM supporting textbook.

Explored us of BlackBoard. Developed PowerPoint presentations.

Susan Caroff

Literacy

Used BlackBoard discussion board and threaded discussions. Created online quizzes to check students understanding of course materials.

Put course on BlackBoard. System for students to e-mail assignments. Posted tests on web site. Identified internet resources for special education.

Foreign Languages

Development of Internet Resources for Spanish course including online newspaper. Use of Internet to improve student writing.

Worked to become more tech savvy. Explored use of PowerPoint and use of social study software and use of the Internet in social studies instruction.
