programs in business and community settings. She is the founder and

undergraduate degree specialization within the Health and Exercise
Department at Rowan University.
Dr. Spencer currently serves on the Board of

nation’s agenda through the political process. A founding member of the
organization which began in 2000, she currently coordinates the
grassroots advocacy and collaboration development committees for Health
Promotion Advocates.

Section for the American Journal of Health Promotion. She is also a

Journal of Health Education.
What does she love most about her work? First, she
loves the chance to work with college students in helping them figure
out what they want to do with their lives. She enjoys getting to know
her students and finds it very rewarding to see them discover their
talents and a vision for their lives. Second, she enjoys learning and
studying. The study of health behavior, or why people do what they do
regarding their health, is fascinating to her. This is where she
focuses most of her research. Third, she believes that health promotion
is vitally important to the quality of life people enjoy both
individually and as part of a community. She finds it gratifying to do
work that does something good for society.
Dr. Spencer is married to Stuart Spencer, a
Presybterian minister, and has two sons, Sam and Miles. Her faith as a
Christian is central to who she is and guides all that she does. Her
family loves to read, play outdoors, visit museums and historic sites,
listen to music, and dine in ethnic restaurants.
