Final Project Reports

High Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement in Hot Mix Asphalt

Currently, the New Jersey Department of Transportation allows a maximum of 15% of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) in the surface course. This leads to a significant amount of unused Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) in the state. The purpose of this study is to develop recommendations to increase the percentages of RAP up to 35% in the surface mixes without adversely the long term performance of the roadways.

New Jersey Motorcycle Fatality Rates

This report describes the methods and findings of an investigation of motorcycle crashes in New Jersey. An additional analysis of guardrail collisions is reported since these crashes have demonstrated to be more severe for motorcyclists than passengers of other vehicles. Lastly, this report provides specific recommendations for reducing the number and severity of motorcycle crashes in New Jersey.

Analysis of Fatal Accidents in New Jersey

The research program has developed a pilot system which links fatal crash data with other associated state data files. By linking these databases, there is an opportunity to investigate the root causes of fatalities in ways that are not possible through analysis of a single database. The project has used New Jersey fatal crash data to conduct two case studies, one on teen driver risk and one on elderly driver risk, to demonstrate the value of a linked data system.
